The seventh annual Blood Donation Day event marking the 21stanniversary of The Saigon Times Weekly and 17th anniversary of The Saigon Times Daily will come to HCMC downtown again this year on Sartuday, October 6 at Saigon Times Group sponsored by Maritime Bank.
Since its inception in 2005, the Blood Donation Day held by the Saigon Times in coordination with Vietnam Red Cross HCMC Chapter has proudly attracted thousands of donors who have joined the event with a good heart. They are consuls and staff from foreign Consulate General offices in HCMC, foreign-invested companies and Vietnamese and foreign individuals.
“Because of medical reasons, I have not been allowed to give blood since then,” says Audri Mukhopadhyay, consul general of Canada in HCMC who has worked in the country for four years. But he commits that he will first join the upcoming event to encourage Canadian community as well as people as he thinks that blood donation is a productive way for people who have little time to make a contribution.
Being a frequent visitor of the Blood Donation Day for years, Rick Yvanovich, CEO of TRG International, believes that the gift of life by blood donation is the right thing to do. “I think the gift of blood is the gift of life, and the gift is from an individual, not a company,” he says.
Meanwhile, Vuong My Phung from HSBC Vietnam hopes to always be healthy enough to join the blood donation event for years to come. Before joining the blood donation event in past years, Phung hasalways thought of love and comfort first, hoping that her blood can help people in need.
The sixth Blood Donation Day event in 2011 attracted 180 people with 155 units of blood collected.
